How I lost 11 pounds in 17 days

I don’t typically do personal posts like this, but I figure there will be others out there who also either have done this or is considering doing this.

After the jump find out what I’m doing and chime in with your tips.

After a friend of mine recently told me he took off 25 pounds in a month, my ears perked and told me he has been on the 17 Day Diet.

The book is not a sponsor of DT, however I got motivated after I heard this.

I’ve read the book and there are similarities to the South Beach diet where there are different phases to the diet:

Accelerate—the rapid weight loss portion that helps flush sugar and fat storage from your system

Activate—the metabolic restart portion with alternating low and high calorie days to help shed body fat

Achieve—this phase is about learning to control portions and introducing new fitness routines

Arrive—a combination of the first three cycles to keep good habits up for good. On weekends, enjoy your favorite foods!

The other thing I liked about the book is that it was written by a doctor who communicates the program as if he were a friend. I actually found myself chuckling a bit at points in his writing.

All of this said, I am now on Day 19 (Friday) and I have lost 12.6 pounds and have gone down 2 pant sizes.

I think the key to this diet is that the book gives you sample meals for each day of the three 17 day cycles.  While I didn’t follow them to a tee, it gave me a structure and a goal.  Two things that were new to me about this sort of diet is that

  • you’re not allowed any fruit past 2 pm
  • you drink a cup of green tea after each meal
  • you should eat a Greek yogurt or an equivalent probiotic drink twice a day (aids in digestion)
  • and you should do some sort of cardio exercise for 17 minutes each day.

Don’t worry, I won’t be doing new posts for every day. Instead, I will simply make updates to this post along the way.

What diets have you tried and what has worked for you? What healthy foods have you eaten to ward off hunger pangs?
