It’s the story of a Gentile who wants to marry a Jewish girl-so he’ll never have to make another decision.   While it sounds like it could be a Mask and Wig show plot, it’s actually something that’s now movie bound!

If you live in Los Angeles, Penn alum Courtney Mizel (W’95, Bloomers, Lantern Society, SDT) is not only producing the play Jewtopia which is now running, but she is in pre-production on “O’Connell and Lipschitz Lose Their Religion”, the movie based on the Jewtopia play.

Here’s the dish on the play…

“The longest running comedy in Off-Broadway and L.A. History finally returns! This new, revamped, and sparkling Off-Broadway caliber production, directed for the first time by JEWTOPIA’s creator Bryan Fogel, brings the hilarity to Los Angeles as never seen before! JEWTOPIA ran for three years and 1200 performances in New York City setting the record as the longest running comedy in Off-Broadway history. Come laugh yourself silly at the comedic hit almost a million fans and counting have loved!

JEWTOPIA tells the story of two 30 year old single men, Chris O’Connell and Adam Lipschitz. Chris, a gentile, wants to marry a Jewish girl so he’ll never have to make another decision. Adam Lipschitz, a Jew, wants to marry a Jewish girl to please his family, but can’t get a date to save his life. After meeting at a Jewish singles mixer, Adam and Chris form a secret pact. Chris promises that he will help Adam find the Jewish girl of his dreams and show him “Jewtopia”, but only if Adam will help Chris shed his gentile-ness and bring him undercover into the Jewish world. Stereotypes collide, cultures clash and hilarity ensues!”
