Penn Alumni You Should Know About: Vol. 16

MUSIC

Tony Peebles (C’03) was recently awarded a Grammy for Best Tropical Latin Album with his group, Pacific Mambo Orchestra. The 19-person band has only been together for three years and they managed to top out over some very famous groups in their category. Penn alum Peebles is the sassy saxophonist in the group, which everyone knows is the coolest instrument. He now resides in NorCal with his brassy baby. Congrats on the win!

BOOKS

Brian Yanish (C’95, Mask and Wig) will be penning his second book, ScrapKins: Junk Re-Thunk, an activity book that will be published by Henry Holt/Macmillan in the Fall of 2015. It follows a group of monsters who build their world out of the “junk” we throw away. The book encourages kids to think about recycling, creativity, and the environment.  Check out Brian’s site for tons of cool projects!

CAMPUS NEWS

John Legend (C’99, Counterparts, Sphinx) has officially been announced as this year’s commencement speaker. Let’s hope the crooner sings his entire address. It would absolutely earn him the title of Best Alum Speaker Ever (sorry, Jon Huntsman Jr.).
