Penn Undergrads You Should Know About Vol. 3

[ssba]

Cathryn Peirce (C’16) hails from Flourtown, PA and is studying History and Cinema Studies. At Penn she is the College Chair of the 2016 Class Board and is also on the Deputy Board of the Vagina Monologues. Cathryn is a Marketing Intern at The Weinstein Company in NYC.

Why Weinstein?: I’ve always loved film and wanted to explore the business side of it. I’m specifically intrigued by the marketing component of film because in many ways film marketing isn’t about selling the story itself, but selling the experience of watching the film. I wanted to explore the means by which The Weinstein Company accomplishes this feat, and how marketing campaigns are strategically carried out through a variety of different mediums relative to the film and the audience to whom they are catering.

Take Us Through A Normal Day: One thing I appreciate about the internship is that there is no normal day; everyday brings something new! Thus far, my work has largely entailed selecting quotes from scripts and upcoming movies for advertising purposes, helping out at film screenings, running errands (one of which brought me to Michelle Williams’ home!), helping to execute marketing plans, and assessing the success of certain marketing strategies.

What’s Your Favorite Part?: I really love the people for whom I work, The Weinstein Company has an incredibly driven and creative work environment, and my job enables me to explore my passion for film. I couldn’t have asked for anything more out of a summer internship!
