Penn Undergrads You Should Know About Vol. 3

[ssba]

Alex Wiggins (W’15) is a rising senior who hails from Philadelphia. She studies Creative and Cultural Leadership (an individualized concentration). On campus Alex is the chair of the Dance Arts Council, and is involved with Onda Latina, Penn Monologues and Black Wharton. Alex is a Production Management Intern for Viacom, specifically with MTV Series Development and Production.

Why MTV?: I was definitely excited about the opportunity to work for a firm that is not only fun and trendy, but also a powerhouse in the industry. I learned more about the internship program through Scott Mills, a Wharton Alum who is a current executive at Viacom. He was giving a presentation in one of my classes, but just kept talking about how much he loved working at Viacom the whole lecture! I just knew I needed to apply!

Take Us Through A Normal Day: Working in Production Management, I deal with a lot of the business and finance side for shows and shoots. On a typical day, I create expense reports for current series and pilots, making sure items purchased on company P-Cards are properly expensed to the correct budget, show and department. I help my manager make invoices for talent (like Snooki & Jwoww), as well as order supplies we may need for shoots. In addition to all of this, I also help a lot with casting – working on finding new talent that would be great for the network!

What’s Your favorite Part?:Seeing random celebrities on my floor! I met Marlon Wayans in the elevator once and he laughed at my joke!

Alex

What People Are Saying

"Because of Penntertainment, I got scouted for Nickelodeon. I had such a great time talking with them. I may be a resource for a show on science, travel, geography, gender etc. Thanks for all you do. It really makes a difference."
