This Penn Alum Musician’s got Hollywood’s Attention …and reminds me of the cartoon JEM

CHARLY, aka Carly Greenberg (C’05) is all about 80’s awesomeness.  So much so that her look and sound has caught Hollywood’s attention.

After the jump find out which popular TV shows her music has been featured in….and which hot rocker 80’s cartoon she reminds me of!

Carly is the lead singer in “21st Century Girl”, a retro-futursitic electro-pop act, identified by power hair, disco balls and mind blowing sounds.

Last spring, Carly partnered with world-renowned producer engineer Jake Davies who has recorded Pink, Keane and the Yeah Yeah Yeah‘s latest records.  Now, this week, Carly’s “Instinct” song is featured in the current episode of HBO’s “Hung” (“Sing It Again, Ray or Home Plate”).  (speaking of the TV show “Hung”, remember THIS story I did on one of the leads from that show who is also a Penn alum?)

How did Carly get her start as a musician?

  • While she was at Penn, she sang at the 2004 PennFest at the Knitting Factory in NYC, and sang at several National Anthems at basketball games at the Palestra.
  • She sang National Anthems for the Knicks at Madison Square Garden, for the Sixers at the Wachovia Center, and I also sang at Phillies games at Citizens Bank Park and at the Lincoln Financial Field.
  • Carly has also performed with Gnarls Barkley at the 2007 Grammy Awards during his number “CRAZY”, opened for Chris Brown and worked with top pop producers in NYC and LA.

Her music has also appeared on The CW’s “Fly Girls”, Oxygen’s “Bad Girls Club” and “Love Games”, E!s “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” and MTV’s “The Real World”

…Now, tell me Carly’s photo above doesn’t remind you of the 80’s cartoon, JEM? I know Carly and yes, she is truly outrageous. Truly, truly, truly outragous.

What People Are Saying

"Because of Penntertainment, I got scouted for Nickelodeon. I had such a great time talking with them. I may be a resource for a show on science, travel, geography, gender etc. Thanks for all you do. It really makes a difference."
