Penn Undergrads You Should Know About Vol. 3

[ssba]

Alexa Fecca (C’16) is a Philly native double majoring in Cinema Studies and Communication. At Penn, Alexa is the co-head writer for Classless TV, Penn’s premiere comedy web series and guitarist, bassist, and vocalist for Bloomers Band. This summer Alexa is a Film and Television Develpment Intern at Allison Shearmur Productions and a Film Marketing Intern at Menemsha Films.

Why Allison Shearmur and Menemsha?: I have always had a strong desire to work in film production; therefore, I am always on the look out for the chance to gain experience in the industry. I wanted to find a position that would allow me to both immerse myself in the unique culture of LA and learn as much as I can about how movies are made. What better way to do it than with two companies run by Penn alums?

Take Us Through A Normal Day: Both of my internships are quite different, varying in everything from location to responsibilities. The day Menemsha begins with a meeting, after which we all break up and work on our individual projects. I am currently helping to market a fascinating documentary, “The Outrageous Sophie Tucker”. At Allison Shearmur Productions my day consists of reading anything from books to TV pilots and assisting the team by writing coverage, burning DVD’s, and doing anything to make the busy workday less of a stress.

What’s Your Favorite Part?: My favorite part of both internships has been the opportunity to witness firsthand how much effort goes into making sure that people go to the movies. In order for a film to succeed, everything must be calculated accordingly. It’s a science. And at my internships it’s a science whose payoff is noticeable.

What People Are Saying

"Because of Penntertainment, I got scouted for Nickelodeon. I had such a great time talking with them. I may be a resource for a show on science, travel, geography, gender etc. Thanks for all you do. It really makes a difference."
